Marcel Desailly has confirmed that he is not in discussions with the Ghana FA over the national team’s vacant manager’s position.
The former Chelsea and AC Milan defender confirmed to Goal.com he has not rescinded his decision after announcing in December he has pulled out of the Black Stars job due to frustrations.
“No. I’m not in talks with anybody to return,” the 42-year-old said.
The Ghana FA spokesman Randy Abbey corroborated the 1998 World Cup winner’s accession and revealed to Goal.com that the search committee on Wednesday made a recommendation to the executive committee for a new coach.
“It’s absolutely false. The committee has finished with its work and we are presenting our report to the executive committee and the ministry of sports as well. We are hoping a decision would be done. For us our work is done,” he told Goal.com.
The FA mouthpiece denied promising Ghanaians a new coach at the close of 2010 but was certain the four-time African champions would have a new boss before their next major tournament.
Abbey added: “We didn’t promise but what we said was that by our timetable we are looking at the possibility of completing our work by the close of the year [2010] so we can have a coach. There are stakeholders involved and if the stakeholders’ deliberations do not delay we should be able to get a coach as early as possible.
“We’re going to get a coach before our next qualifying match.
“A decision was made based on the three coaches [Humberto Coelho, Herbert Addo and Goran Stevanovic] that were shortlisted but at the end of the day it’s a recommendation.”
Abbey added that for now assistant Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah is assured of hanging on to his job.
