Sunyani (B/A), Sept 25, GNA - Visiting Dormaa Aduana Stars beat Brong-Ahafo United Football Club 1-0 in their second round top-liner of the Northern sector First Division football League match at the Sunyani Coronation Park on Saturday.
The lone goal hero of the match Kofi Abanga, after displacing United's goalkeeper had an easy task ahead to easily place the ball in the yawning net in the 24th minute.
The two leading teams in the Northern sector of the National First Division competition settled for a 1-1 drawn game in their first duel played at Dormaa-Ahenkro with representatives of the two teams claiming to beat the other in the pre-match interview and radio phone-ins at some of the local FM stations of the Region.
Despite playing away, the supporters of visitors, led by team manager Kofi Zico Osei Bonsu travelled all the way from Dormaa and its adjoining towns to cheer their team onto victory.
The background report of rowdy scenes that was alleged to have occurred at Dormaa-Ahenkro when the two teams met in their first round encounter made the local branch of the Ghana Football Association, led by its Chairman Mr. Kofi Num Dwomoh to beef up police security with a number of military personnel to avoid a recurrence of any nasty scene. As the match commenced the first minutes of the exchanges showed indications that United would emerge victorious as their attacking machinery led by captain Kwasi Boateng mounted pressure on the visitors. They could however not find the net due to the erratic shooting of their attackers while the few shots were perfectly saved by goalkeeper Joseph Agyapong in goal for Aduana.
Left off the hook, Aduana redoubled their efforts and changed the tide in their favour and with Samuel Tawiah in top form, they made occasional incessant raids into the goal area of United but the defence managed to repulse the attack.
Undaunted by the home advantage of United, the Dormaa boys kept on probing for goals and during one of their attack Abanga meandered his way through the United defence and placed the ball into the net for the only goal of the match.
United after the goal counter-attacked in search of the equaliser at the dying minutes of the first half but the unyielding defence of the visitors remained resolute to defend their goal.
Barely four minutes after the resumption of the second half, United had an indirect free kick but the kick taken by captain Boateng was perfectly scooped from the danger zone by a defender after goalkeeper Agyapong had been displaced.
In the 60th minute, United had another indirect kick but this time Boateng shot over the bar.
Aduana's keeper Agyapong who endeared himself with good goalkeeping throughout the match nearly painted a bad picture for himself when during the last-quarter of the match he persistently displayed unnecessary antics with delay tactics that frustrated United from getting the equalizer.
After a verbal warning from the referee, keeper Agyapong was shown the yellow card in the 80th minute but the home team still failed to find the much needed equaliser to end the match 1-0 in favour of Aduana. 25 Sept 05
