Accra, April 26, GNA - Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs has complained about what they described as biased officiating from referee William Agbovi in their third week Premier league match against Kade Hotspurs at Kade last Sunday.
Dwarfs lost the game 1-2.
According to the newly promoted club, referee Agbovi awarded a questionable free kick to the home team and subsequently gave them a penalty after the said free kick had hit the hand of one of their player who had formed a wall whilst covering his groin.
A statement signed by Mr Kwamena Essilfie Adjaye, a Director of Ebusua Dwarfs copied to the GNA Sports said the resultant penalty resulted in the cancellation of their lead.
Mr Adjaye added that the referee's decision to award the penalty against them was biased saying "it is always normal for players to cover their groin with their hands when they form a wall, before a free kick is taken".
He said that Hotspurs winning goal was scored when their attacker kept pulling the shirt of a Dwarfs defender way outside the box into the penalty box in the full glare of referee Agbovi, but he ignored the incident and allowed the player to gain the upper hand to score what turned out to be the match winner.
The statement also cited series of instances in the game to buttress their point, arguing that referee Agbovi ignored some fouls that would have resulted in penalties for Dwarfs.
The statement therefore called on the Professional League Board (PLB) to take a critical view of the tape in order to confirm the biased attitude of the referee on the day.
It also called for the sanctioning of the referee as his presence could mar the quality of officiating in the league. 26 April 05
