Eastern Region to honour sports personalities

Accra, Nov. 8, GNA - The National Sports Council (NSC) in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has put in place plans to honour distinguished sports personalities whose achievements is a mark of distinction and worthy of recognition at the regional levels. Mr Charles Aryeh, Eastern Regional Sports Development Officer (RSDO) in a Press Release copied to the GNA Sports has therefore asked all former sports personalities to submit information about their exploits and achievements in the region to the Regional secretariat for scrutiny. Mr Aryeh said a Selection Committee would be constituted by the Regional Co-ordinating Council to screen all the applicants for the best personalities to be selected.

The statement said the Region has also been mandated to put up a Regional Hall of Fame where records of Regional Sports Achievers will be displayed for the benefit of posterity.

The statement called for the full co-operation of all and sundry to avoid the barrage of criticisms encountered during the launching of the National Sports Hall of Fame.

In another development, the National Sports Council (NSC) in the Eastern Region has temporarily postponed their impending Eastern Relay Run on the Aburi-Koforidua Road.

It said the postponement was due to constructional works taking place on the Aburi - Mamfe Road, which will impede the progress of the exercise.

Mr Charles Aryeh, Regional Sport Development Officer of Koforidua said the NSC has secured a sponsorship package for the event and stated that the event will take place immediately the roadwork is completed for the competition take off accordingly.

The statement said fresh invitations would be sent to participants when a new date has been arrived for the event.
