New Edubiase United added to the woes of struggling Tudu Mighty Jets with a lone goal victory in their Week 27 clash on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
An own-goal by Nuru Sulley on six minutes further dampened the survival hopes of Mighty Jets with three matches to spare.
Despite managing to keep leading marksman in the League, Emmanuel Baffour in check, the homers failed to do the most important thing – scoring, after conceding an early goal from which they never recovered.
Both teams started on a high note with Mighty Jets making inroads into the visitors half in their quest to score an early goal.
It was rather Edubiase who scored on their first attempt at goal after Asiedu Attobrah’s shot deflected off Sulley into his net with goalkeeper Kotei Blankson completely beaten.
Mighty Jets accepted the challenge and took hold of the midfield but failed to cut into the Edubiase defence which revolved around Owusu Bempah, Richard Adjei, Iddrisu Yahaya and Abubakar Mumuni.
Mighty Jets continued with their unproductive play in the second half as they pushed more men upfront.
Few minutes later, Sidi Abubakar wasted the best opportunity that befell his side by connecting wide from close range from Tamimu Muntari’s cross from the left flank.
Not even six minutes of added on time could save Mighty Jets who introduced Mohammed Mukson and Sinare Mubarak in the closing stages of the game but the changes failed to earn them any point till the final whistle.**
