Envoy Donates Cup For Gala Football Tournament

H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana?s High Commissioner to the UK has donated a silver cup to be presented to the winner of the newly-instituted yearly Ghana Gala Football Tournament. In addition, he has also donated a statuette for the best player of the tournament.

The first tournament will take place at the Broadwater Farms Football pitch (behind the Broadwater Farms Community Hall, Adams Road, London, N17) on Sunday, August 29th, 2004 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The participating teams are Deptford Park Club, Park View FC, Broadwater Farms (Republicans) FC, Kennington FC, Hackney (Anokyekrom) and Soccer Stars FC.

Mr. Kwabena Baah-Duodu, Deputy High Commissioner will inspect the participating teams and take the kick-off.

Mr. Bernard Ampah, Chief Executive of the Original Black Entertainment Television (OBE) and Bishop Dr. Frimpong Manson of Reconciliation International are among Ghanaian opinion leaders who are scheduled to make special presentations to the participating teams and officials.

H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, who will present the cup to the winning team, told the organisers of the tournament that they should use the games to build bridges within the Ghanaian community and foster understanding and co-operation among the sons and daughters of Ghana and other Africans in the diaspora.

The International Diplomatic Suppliers and Chacalli De-Decker, suppliers of duty free goods to the diplomatic community have made available souvenirs and a variety of drinks for presentation to participating officials and players.
