AshantiGold midfielder Eric Opoku has been named the footballer of the season for the 2014/2015 campaign at Friday night’s award ceremony in Accra.
The club’s deputy captain was picked ahead of striker Kofi Owusu, who is the league’s top scorer with 19 goals and goalkeeper Richard Ofori of Wa All Stars.
Opoku starred in midfield as the Obuasi-based side dispatched opponents to win their fourth league title- their first in 19 years.
His versatility also saw him feature as a centre-back in the title run-in.
Opoku received an extra cash prize of US$1000 from former Hearts of Oak board secretary Ernest Thompson, who was chairman for the occasion.
