Ghana defender Harrison Afful has returned to training ahead of Esperance’s Caf Champions League final first leg tie against WAC on Sunday.
The versatile wing-back suffered an ankle injury during the second leg semi-final match against Al Hilal of Sudan.
Esperance coach Nabil Maaloul will further assess the former Asante Kotoko player before the team’s departure to Casablanca on Friday.
Afful has been influential in the Blood and Gold’s qualification to a second consecutive final. The two north-Africans have already met in the group phase, on both occasions unable to distinguish themselves in Morocco (2-2) as well as in Tunisia (0-0).
The Blood and Gold won Africa’s most prestigious competition in 1994, have since been runners-up three times (1999, 2000 and 2010) and dream of the glory of another win and of a historic treble after having won the championship as well as the National Cup this season.
Wydad Casablanca, leader of the Botola Pro (the Moroccan championship) after six days, , would also love to clinch a second continental silverware after 1992.
