Esperance slap Clottey with US$ 25,000 fine

Ghana striker Emmanuel Clottey has been fined US$ 25,000 by Esperance for reporting late after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

MTNFootball.com has reported the Tunis-based club felt his truancy with a 35,000 Tunisian dinar fine.

Clottey joined his teammates in Tunis four weeks after the tournament had ended in South Africa.

He was dragged before the club’s disciplinary committee early this month but he could not convince the panel why he should not be punished.

It will be recalled that another Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso was fined 10,000 Euros by his Spanish club Espanyol for overstaying after the Nations Cup. Clottey was signed from Berekum Chelsea for a Ghanaian record transfer fee on US$ 1.5m.

But last month, rumours were rife that his former club wanted to terminate his contract over unpaid transfer fee.
