Ex-England international Stan Collymore believes Ghana will edge Portugal to qualify from Group G behind favourites Germany at the 2014 World Cup.
The Black Stars have been drawn in the acclaimed group of death in June’s finals in Brazil.
Ghana however look to improve upon their quarter final finish at the last World Cup this term in Brazil.
Many football pundits have massive doubts over the African giants’ ability to get past the star-studded Germany side and Portugal who have a lethal weapon in Cristiano Ronaldo to make it out of the tough group.
But Stan Collymore who now works as a football pundit with TalkSports believes the Black Stars have a better all-round team to progress as the second-best team in Group G, thereby edging out Portugal.
“[Cristiano] Ronaldo can score bullet headers at the near post; he can defend the back post for you,” he said.
“He’s got that anger and spite drive in him whenever his team needs him. “So I wouldn’t disagree that Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal couldn’t go through, I just feel that Ghana, their first eleven, the options they’ve got, the fact that they were so close to getting to the semifinals last time, I think that they will edge Portugal out.”
The Ghana team is currently in the Netherlands preparing for their third successive campaign at the World Cup finals.
The Black Stars will play the Dutch national team in a friendly match on Saturday before moving camp to the USA to conclude its preparations.
