F.C Tanga beats Bolga All Stars to lift the President's Cup

President's Cup President's Cup

The Upper East Regional edition of the President's Cup afforded Bolga All Stars and F.C Tanga the opportunity to meet for the second time to weigh their strengths and skills ahead of their crucial encounter in the Second Round of the GN Bank Division One League.

The match is the first of its kind in the history of the President's Cup, which is played to mark Republic Day celebration in Ghana.

The match started on a low tone with both teams playing with utmost care, since it was a match outside of the Division One League matches. It looked as though it was not important to both sides, until the supporters of both sides started increasing at the Bolgatanga Sports Stadium and demanded for seriousness from their Clubs.

Suddenly the Tanga boys, whose support bases were so loud and demanding, became aggressive and lifted their play to the level they are known for.

The "virginity" of the match was soon broken, when Varney Boakai Sando in his usual number 2 jersey, made a beautiful cross in the 7th minute to newly signed attacker, Stephen Bawa, who headed the ball into goal post of Bolga All Stars, to register the first goal of the match.

Bolga All Stars after this goal proved resolute as their defence neutralized all other attacks by the F.C Tanga attackers.

However, Stephen Bawa, in his quest to prove his worth and justify his inclusion into the F.C Tanga family, fought hard and added a second goal in the 41st minute of the match. The first half ended with F.C Tanga leading by two goals from Stephen Bawa.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Bolga All Stars, coming out as wild lions seeking to equalize the two goals, but could not have their way through the defence of F.C Tanga.

The woes of Bolga All Stars deepened when a third goal was added by Varney Boakai Sando for F.C Tanga before the end of the first half.

On the 64th minute of the match, Bolga All Stars had their first goal, but their joy was soon cleared by a goal from prolific striker, Fowaz Yussif on the 68th minute, bringing the score line to Bolga All Stars 1:4 F.C TANGA.
