The FA Cup Committee has earned all the bragging rights over the Premier League Board following Nania FC’s win over Berekum Chelsea to clinch the 2011 Super Cup.
The FA Cup holders emerged winners of the Sly Tetteh Cup after beating last season’s league champions 4-2 on penalties after the game had ended 1-1 in regulation time.
The second tier side owned by Ghana legend Abedi Pele were clear underdogs going into Sunday’s game but managed to hold their own against the star-studded Premier League champions.
The momentous feat by Nania thus shows the quality of the FA Cup competition, member of the committee, Kurt Okraku has told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“Nania’s win over Chelsea goes a long way to attest to the fact that the FA Cup was very competitive and full of quality,” he said.
“We as organizers of the competition can only be proud that we have been able to produce a credible winner who can stand their own against the country’s premier league champions and therefore we will like to congratulate Nania for this historic achievement.”
Premier League boss, Welbeck Abra-Appiah had earlier showed his bias by throwing his support behind Chelsea on the simple fact that they represent the Premier League.
However Nania’s feat clearly shows how superior the FA Cup competition is to the Premier League if Abra-Appiah’s reason for supporting Chelsea is upheld.
