Hanover, Oct. 22, GNA - Wake up to a temperature of five degrees and it is fair to feel the vast difference in weather, especially when it is been only a few days ago when one was enjoying the scorching sun in Accra, Ghana.
Ghana's Black Queens walked into a temperature of five degrees in Hanover, Germany on Wednesday to wrap up their preparations towards the African Women's Championship (AWC) in South Africa later this month with Coach Anthony K. Edusei insisting the massive change in weather will test his charges resolve and strength.
Question marks have been raised over the choice of venue for the preparations, especially when the weather in South Africa during the two-week tourney will contrast with the chilling one now in Germany but the Coach says the hallmark of a good team is its ability to adapt when seasons change.
"Every strong team should be able to overcome such things; moreover we can never tell how the weather could be in South Africa," the Coach told GNA Sports in Hanover.
The Queens are in Germany for a ten day training tour and expect to travel to South Africa 72 hours before their Group B opener against Algeria.
Coach Edusei told GNA Sports the choice of Germany as the wrapping-up venue for the Queens was similarly to motivate the team into knowing it is only by picking one of the two World Cup slots for Africa at the AWC that would bring them back to the European country next year.
Ghana is pitted in Group B alongside defending Champions, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria and Cameroon in the two-week biannual fiesta that qualifies the two finalists to the next FIFA World Cup billed for Germany in 2011.
Coach Edusei said the selection of the team's destination was useful in testing the strength of his charges because of the kind of fine-tuning that they require before the Queens begin their campaign in 11 days time.
"The strength of German teams cannot be over emphasized. The quality they have has made them one of the best in football in general and of women's football specifically'. The Queens on Thursday beat BV Coppenburg, a Liga two side 2-0 in their first test game and seek to put a final touch on their preparation with a second game against another liga two side, FFC Gutersloft on Tuesday, October 26. 22 Oct. 10
