Frimpong training alone at Arsenal

Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has started training at Arsenal’s training grounds at the Underhill while the first team squad has travelled to Asia.

Frimpong, 21, was unable to recover in time from a knee injury to join Arsene Wenger’s side for their Asian pre-season tour but has began training alone at the North London side.

The powerful hard-tackling midfielder went under the knife after sustaining a knee injury in his last Premiership game at Fulham last season.

But he has resumed training to keep himself in shape and ready to compete for a place in Arsene Wenger’s first team squad for the upcoming season.

“40mins of pure running,” he tweeted.

He would join the Arsenal squad after their Asian tour but he would play warm-up friendlies with Steve Gatting’s U21 side before later joining the first team squad when they return to London.

Frimpong’s young career has been bedeviled by constant injuries limiting him to a few first team actions under Wenger.

His current Arsenal contract runs out at the end of the coming season and it is unclear whether he would be offered a new deal.
