GFA President backs progress of the Sports Media

Kwesi Nyantekyi, President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has hinted his full support for the progress of the Sports Media in Ghana.

Chatting with the President Ackah Anthony and Deputy General Secretary Sammy Heywood Okine of the Sports Writers Association at the Banquet Hall during their 38th Awards Dinner, he noted that the media plays a vital role in the promotion and development of sports.

He said most sports heroes were created by the media and they should be respected in society, because journalists are opinion leaders as well as agenda setters. Kwesi Nyantekyi congratulated the SWAG for coming very far with the consistent and constant Awards ceremony which keeps on improving year after year.

He commended the executives and planners of the 38th SWAG Awards which was massively attended by award winners, sponsors, media practitioners, sports personalities and the general public.

Italy based Black Stars and Juventus player Kwadwo Asamoah was crowned Sports Personality and Footballer of the Year.

Didi Dramani, coach of the Black Maidens at the 2012 FIFA under 17 Girls Tournament in Azerbaijan and Asante Kotoko got his award as Coach of the Year.

Priscilla Okyere, captain of the Black Maidens was decorated as Female Footballer of the Year, whilst the team won the National Team of the Year Award.

Other award winners related to football were Mahatma Otoo of Accra Hearts of Oak for the Premiership Player of the Year, Adjoa Bayor for Dedication and Valour, Emmanuel Kyeremeh of Berekum Chelsea collecting a special award for his contribution to the development of football in Ghana and the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama (posthumous).
