The Ghana FA has thrown its support behind coach Akwasi Appiah to keep changing his team until he finally settles on the squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Stars have seen many new faces under the former Ghana captain in recent times.
One of such new faces, Afriyie Acquah fetched Ghana the solitary goal in the win over Malawi to seal qualification for next year’s Nations Cup in South Africa.
Appiah’s policy of casting his net wide has however been criticized in some quarters – mainly for what they term ‘instability’ of the team especially with the AFCON on the horizon.
The critics believe the Ghana coach should be settled on his team for the finals by now rather than still operate his ‘open door’ system.
But Ghana FA boss Kwasi Nyantakyi says the process of handing as many as possible invitations to the national team is necessary to get the right players for the tournament.
“The coach is in the process of getting his team so obviously there will be changes and the need to give everyone a chance,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM.
“You also have to know that players are invited to the national team per the opposition we face.
“But with the Nations Cup, there should be a blend of players to meet different opponents.
“So I think this process of team changes will continue until December there about when we will have a fair idea of the players we will be taking to the Nations Cup.”
Ghana will be making an attempt to end an over 30-year period without any silverware at next year’s finals in South Africa.
