Accra, May 14, GNA - Green Grass Technology (GGT), a United Kingdom based firm has been given the nod to construct training pitches for the Ghana 2008 MTN Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
The UK firm will construct six of the training pitches to be used for the January 20-February 10 tourney.
Speaking to the GNA Sports, Mr Frank Boahene , Managing Director of the pitch specialis firm said that his outfit would work on the training pitches for the Accra and Sekondi venues.
For Accra, the sites are the Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Legon, Achimota Secondary School, Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC) while Fijai Secondary School, Gyandu Park and the Railways Park have been selected for Sekondi.
Mr Boahene, a former Head of Corporate Grounds at English Premiership side, Fulham said work on the proposed sites would commence by the end of this month.
"We have moved all the materials to the sites and will soon begin." He explained that the whole project which would involve five weeks of planting and 12 weeks of the benchmark development was expected to be completed by September.
Mr Boahene said that all the training pitches would have standard changing rooms, medical facilities and stands for fans. "Each pitch will also have drainage and irrigation system." With the CAF Inspection team raising concerns about the readiness of the training pitches for the biennial competition, Mr Boahene assured the CAF inspectors and stakeholders that the venues would be ready before their next visit.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) will be working on sixteen venues earmarked for training pitches for the Ghana 2008 MTN African Cup competition.
