Management committee chief of the Black Stars, George Afriyie says he expected Ghanaian players to dominate CAF’s player of the year list.
The continent’s football governing body (CAF) released a list of 37 players which was dominated by players from North African country, Algeria.
The duo of Andre Ayew, who now plays his football with Swansea City in the English Premier League and Christian Atsu who is originally a Chelsea player but is on loan with English Premier league club Bournemouth, were the only Ghanaian players to make the list, despite Ghana’s second place finish in Equatorial Guinea.
Afriyie, who is revered in Ghana for his football management skills, says he was surprised to find out only Andre Ayew and Christian Atsu were the only Ghanaians to have made the list.
“I expected more because we were all there during the AFCON 2015, and we have followed the exploits of our players after that,” Afriyie said
“I strongly believe that if CAF has shortlisted about four or five of our players I would not have been surprised.”
“As it stands we have to pray and hope that the two make it all the way.”
