Accra, Aug. 28, GNA - The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations is to organise the third of a series of events for a Road Show in Cape Coast on Saturday, September 1 to climax the celebration of the Fetu Afahye festival. The show, which is a major part of many outdoor events has been designed by the LOC to publicise the January 20-Febraury 10, 2008 CAN Tournament.
A statement issued to the GNA Sports by Magnus Rex Danquah, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the LOC said the Road Show is also to generate excitement for the 26th edition of the continent's football showpiece.
As part of the Road Show, Mr Danquah said floats on wheels would be organised through the principal streets of Cape coast and its environs to end up at the Victoria Park, the main venue of the event. Mr Danquah said football lovers and fans in the Metropolis would also have the chance to interact with Claude le Roy, coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars, Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio and Sam Arday, renowned local coaches who would be Special Guests of the the show.
The Operating Officer said that in the true spirit of "Sharing passions at the centre of the Earth" with all compatriots, the original trophy of the CAN Tournament would for the first be displayed openly during the Road Show to give Ghanaian soccer lovers an up-close and personal encounter with the trophy.
Mr Danquah added that the event will be graced by former Black Stars and three-time African Footballer of the Year, Abedi Ayew Pele to lead other former national stars including Nii Odartey Lamptey, Yaw Preko, Anthony Yeboah and Tony Baffoe to create the necessary excitement in the build-up to the tournament.
Other renowned footballers expected at the Road Show are Ibrahim Sunday, Abdul Razak (Golden Boy), Mohammed Polo and Kwame Ayew among others.
Hip-Life icon Samini will also add his star power and image to the Road Show, which came off in Kumasi and Sekondi-Takoradi on August 17 and 18 respectively. The next stop for the event would be on September 8, at the Holy Gardens of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra. 28 Aug. 07
