The Black Meteors of Ghana have been hampered by the Ministry of Sports’ delay in releasing funds for the teams’ preparation and head coach and the problem could affect the naming of squad for the Games.
Head coach Malik Jabir is expected to name an all local squad for the competition in Congo Brazzaville, with the sports ministry yet to fund for the tickets of potential foreign-based players.
SportsCrusader.com investigations have revealed that the management and technical committee of the Meteors have been restrained from inviting foreign-based players for the competition which starts in the first week of September, with the ministry reluctant in catering for the travelling expenses.
The sources say coach Malik Jabir has delayed naming his squad for the Olympic style tournament, as he contemplates on calling off the invitation of Euro-based stars, a decision which will be heavily influenced by the availability of funds from the Ministry.
European stars like Serbia-based Obeng Regan, Ebenezer Assifuah and Godfred Donsah were expected to make the squad.
But few days to the deadline for the submission of squad for the games, Jabir will have no option than to recruit an entirely local-based players for the games.
The Black Meteors, have been drawn against arch rivals Nigeria, Senegal and Egypt in Group B of the Games.
Ghana are the defending champions of the All African Games having won the last competition in Maputo, Mozambique.
