Ghana-Portugal: Player Rating

Ghana have crashed out of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil after suffering a 2-1 defeat against European side Portugal in Brasilia on Thursday evening.

Defender John Boye scored an own-goal but Asamoah Gyan scored his 7th World Cup goal to peck the scoring for Ghana before Cristiano Ronaldo sent Ghana packing with a good low finishing.

GHANAsoccernet.com’s Akyereko Frimpong Manson runs the rule over the performance of the team.

Fatau Dauda (GOALKEEPER) 6.5/10

The Orlando Pirates man was one of Ghana’s most impressive players on the field as he pulled great stops to deny Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani on uncountable times. Show good reflexes and feline agility. Great performance from the gloves-man.

Harrison Afful (RIGHT-BACK) 5.5/10

Enjoyed a fine game and managed to keep Cristiano Ronaldo at bay at some parts of the game but the Real Madrid star trouble.

Kwadwo Asamoah (LEFT-BACK) 5.5/10

Completely marked out Nani from the game but could not join the attack more often to create chances.

John Boye (CENTER-BACK) 5/10

Scored an own-goal that put Ghana behind in the first-half and also committed few blunders in the game. But made a timely block to keep Ghana’s hopes alive.

Jonathan Mensah (CENTER-BACK) 6.5/10

Was solid at the back and limited the chances of Eder upfront. He was rock solid in aerial balls and proved impressive against Nani and Co.?Rabiu Mohammed (MIDFIELD) 5/10

Usually slow and lacked the confidence and ability to move forward and penetrate the gagged space in the Portuguese midfield. He wasn’t very illustrious like the push Afriyie Acquah brought.

Christian Atsu (FORWARD) 4.5/10

Good on the ball with his trickery and skill but his final delivery was always poor. He failed to deliver the final productive crosses in for Gyan and Waris. His worst game in Brazil.

Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu (MIDFIELD) 5/10

Wasn’t a usual Agyemang-Badu performance. Rabiu Mohammed’s slow-styled play affected his play and could surge forward to raid in his trademark powerful shots.

Abdul Majeed Waris (FORWARD) 4.5/10

Had Ghana’s best chance of the game but failed to bury the ball at the back of the net as he headed wide. Was replaced by Jordan Ayew in the 71st minute.

Asamoah Gyan (FORWARD) 6/10

Played the captain’s game and scored to put Ghana on level terms. Created space and chance for Waris to operate. But shot two efforts wide. Now Africa’s all-time top-scorer at the World Cup.

Andre Ayew (FORWARD) 5.5/10

The Marseille man prove lethargic in the second-half with his relentless and tenacious play. Just when he was warming himself into the game, he was substituted by the Ghana coach.

SUBSTITUTES

Jordan Ayew (FORWARD) 5/10

Replaced Waris and showed some moments of brilliance with his touches. Was averagely good.

Wakaso Mubarak (MIDFIELD) 5.5/10

Proved more influential and good on the flanks. Had a great game in the last 8 minutes of action he saw.

Afriyie Acquah (MIDFIELD) 5.5/10

The Parma man came off the bench to impress and brought new vim and energy to the Ghana midfield.
