Ghana’s recent poor performance in soccer at senior level competitions accounts for the Country’s dismal position in the FIFA ranking table released today. Ghana is ranked 59th by the World Soccer governing body. The Country has now slipped from its previous 55th position.
No African country was mentioned in the top 20.
Tunisia, the best African side, was ranked 22nd while countries like South Africa, Morocco, Nigeria and Cameroon placed 28th, 29th, 34th and 37th respectively.
Other African countries ahead of Ghana include Egypt, Cote d’ Ivoire, Angola and Zambia.
Ghana’s position is largely attributed to its inability to play 80 international A-matches since the last ranking in the month of July.
A poor showing at next years African Cup of Nations would further push Ghana down the table.
Nigeria’s 34th position now is an improvement as they have moved up by five after been ranked 39th in the previous ranking.
