Ghana defender Daniel Opare: 'I will die for Besiktas'

Ghana defender Daniel Opare says he will die for his Turkish club Besiktas because of the unwavering support he has enjoyed from fans of the club even though he has struggled for playing time.

The right-back vowed to help the Istanbul side to laurels after helping them oust Liverpool from the Europa League in one of the rare starts for the club.

Opare, who has enjoyed massive support from the fans since arriving in the winter transfer window, excelled for Besiktas as they beat Liverpool on penalties to the reach the Europa League Round of 32 on Thursday night.

“I am trying to make the most of my work. I want to respond to the love of our fans. I would die for Besiktas, I do everything,” Opare said.

Opare, who is a right-back, was made to play at the left-back position and did very well defensively and occasionally when he joined the attack.

“I played many times before left-back. I keep control of those who play with me,” Opare said.

The Ghana international completed 81 passes with an 89 percent accuracy and linked up well with Gökhan Töre on the wing.

Besiktas were trailing 1-0 from the first, but scored within regulation time to level on aggregate before triumphing 5-4 on penalties.

Opare only joined on loan in January and had struggled for playing time, but he left most Besiktas fans wondering why he does not start more often.

The Ghana international caused Liverpool problems with his pace and completed five successful dribbles.
