Ghana defender survives 'Birds' major clear-out

SOCCER – FORMER XI Men In Flight Ghanaian defender Nana Yaw Asante is the only foreign player that has survived the major cleanout at Mbabane Swallows. Reliable information obtained by this newspaper yesterday is that Asante is the only foreign player that has been allowed to stay in the team after the rest were told to look for new teams to play for next season.
Such players who are facing the chop at the ‘Beautiful Birds’ include Cameroonian striker Etienne Massoye, former Manzini Wanderers’ Congolese striker Yanick Ockoly, defender Eduardo Tamele from Mozambique who has already been furnished with his clearance, midfielder Eric Bisser and Nigerian defender Ifeanyi Ezewudo.
Sources closer to Swallows have revealed that the players, save for Nana, were politely urged by the team’s management to look for new teams during a meeting late last week where Tamele was given his free clearance due to failure to reach common ground with the team as a result of money owed to him in respect of his signing on fee and part of his monthly salaries.
“Only Nana will remain with the team while the rest of the foreign players have been asked to look for new teams. Swallows will definitely be a new look side next season,” said the source.
Swallows’ Secretary, Sibusiso Manana, when reached for comments, said it was too early to comment on which players would be leaving the team and those that would be joining them.
