Ghana hoping Amaglug-glug will spoil the party Nigeria’s ‘Dream Team’are favoured to secure Olympic qualification.
With Ghana blowing their chance to seal their Olympic qualification at the weekend following a goalless draw at home against Nigeria in Accra, the pendulum has suddenly swung in the favour of Nigeria’s ‘Dream Team’. Nigeria, with a match to play, now appears certain of their place in Beijing next year.
The Black Meteors have completed their group matches garnering a total of seven points from a three-team group that also features Amaglug-glug who are already out of contention with a single point.
Nigeria’s ‘Dream Team’s just need to overcome, Amaglug-glug, the whipping boys of the group when the South Africans visit Abuja in March, to confirm their ticket to China.
Ghana still hold a faint hope that Steve Komphela’s team at least disrupts the process by snatching even an unlikely draw that works in their favour. Nigeria have five points, two behind Ghana, and just need a win in March over South Africa to top the group and march to Beijing.
Amaglug-glug’s single point was picked up from a home draw against Nigeria before they went on to hand Ghana six points on which the West Africans had built their qualification foundation.
