Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has hailed former skipper for initiating the Vodafone Peace Cup insisting it will help reduce the tension that precedes the general elections.

Ghana will be going to the polls in November to decide a president and presidential candidates for the country until the next four years.

And the former captain of the Black Stars has engineered the Vodafone Peace Cup to minimize the tension and to canvass for peace for the elections.

Speaking on the game, the Shanghai SIPG striker lauded the initiative but felt sad he can’t be part of the event.

“It is a great initiative. Appiah has been a great inspiration for Ghana and we are all proud of him.

“When I heard the news, I was happy but am sad that I will not be around for the game because our season has just started.”

The games will be played between a World XI side and Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars on the 8th and 11th of June in Kumasi and Accra respectively.
