Gyan to sit out Brazil friendly

Team doctors of the Black Stars have told SuperSport that Asamoah Gyan would not play in Monday’s friendly with Brazil.

Gyan had suffered a slight injury to his thigh after clashing with two Swaziland players in Ghana’s qualifier with Swaziland on Friday night.

Initial diagnoses after game had confirmed to us that he would be fine after a couple of days. After observation today, doctors have urged the team’s Serbian coach to rest during the Brazil game.

Gyan himself was disappointed that he would not play any part in a game he had looked forward to.

“I would have really wished to feature in this one but I totally understand what the medics are saying. It’s fine by me and I will cheer the guys on.”

He will be on the subs bench, however, as he’s part of the official squad list.

Gyan should be back for Sunderland’s game against Chelsea in a week’s time, after scoring Ghana’s first goal on their way to winning 2-0 in Accra.
