Hearts apologize to PRO

Accra, Jan 22, GNA - The Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Limited has rendered an apology to its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Randy Abbey.

In a statement signed by Mr Thomas Okine, Chairman of the IMC copied to the GNA Sports it said the incident was as a result of a communication gap and described it as unfortunate.

Mr Okine said the club regrets the embarrassment and inconveniences the incident caused Mr Abbey personally as well as his role in the management team.

He said the club unreservedly retracts the said letter to GHALCA of which copies were made to the press and expressed the hope that Mr Abbey will continue with his good works for the club and help move it forward.

Mr Abbey early this week announced his resignation from the club following a letter copied to the Ghana league Clubs Association (GHALCA) in which the club demanded further explanation from GHALCA on the participation of Kotoko in the tournament despite the representation of Mr Abbey and Steve Mawuenyegah, a board member of the club at the meeting.

Mr Abbey in an interview with the GNA Sports said he has accepted the apology because he demanded for it at both management and board meetings of the club.

He said his decision to accept the apology and stay on was due to discussions he held with Mr Ato Ahwoi, the Board Chairman of the club who asked him to remain at post for the matter to be resolved. "Hearts of Oak is my club and I will always render my services to the club if I am needed, but the people I work with must not make the work difficult for me". Mr Abbey stated.

Commenting on the performance of the team in its first match of the Coca Cola Top Four Tourney against King Faisal, Mr Abbey expressed satisfaction with the team describing the match as a difficult one. According to the PRO, he was not expecting so much at this time from the team since a lot of new players have been introduced into the set up and they will definitely need more matches and take time to get to know each other.

He expressed the hope that the team will put up a better performance in its subsequent matches.
