Hearts ask for postponement of memorial match

Accra, Dec 30, GNA - Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club has called for the postponement of the Memorial match against city rivals Accra Great Olympics.

The Club has therefore called for rescheduling of the match to January 15 to allow for adequate publicity.

Mr Ashford Tettey Oku, Administrative Manager of Hearts in a release copied to the GNA Sports said taking a cue from the President's Memory Lane Cup match on December 26, in which they recorded a huge loss it would be more prudent and beneficial for all stakeholders if the match were rescheduled.

The Club, however, said they give their fullest assurance to cooperate and participate in any event that would be held at a more convenient time.

The statement said that the Late Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II, in whose memory the match was being arranged was not going to be buried this weekend and so the there was the need for adequate preparations by both sides and the organisers.

Mr Oku said the propositions agreed upon by the Club's representatives at the meeting with the Ga Traditional Council on December 28 seemingly contradicted the Club's position. The statement said "we still emphasize that the situation is not economically ripe for us to participate in the match on Saturday, December 31.

It would be recalled that Hearts of Oak lost by a heavy goal margin of 3-0 to their city rivals Great Olympics in the President's Memory Lane Cup match last weekend.
