Herbert Addo admits disappointment over his sides poor showing at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and takes responsibility for Ghana's first round exit.
The home-based national team crashed out of the Championship designed by the Confederation of African Football (Caf) for Africa-based players after losing 1-0 to Niger on Sunday.
“I take responsibility for the results in this tournament,” Herbert Addo said after Ghana were handed their third consecutive defeat at the Championship in Sudan.
“It’s a young team and we have not been together for a long period. I thought we played our best football today [Sunday against Niger] and l am not disappointed with that but with the result,” said Addo.
Ghana, losing finalist in the maiden tournament two years ago entered the competition with much hope as they were drawn in a fairly balanced Group B which included South Africa, Niger and Zimbabwe.
However, Herbert's hopes of a successful campaign rather kicked off on a poor note, defeat to South Africa only to be followed by another loss to Zimbabwe and a final blow from Niger.
“We wanted to go all the way and meet Sudan and avenge our 1970 loss in Africa Nations Cup held here in Sudan but Niger spoilt that dream for us,” lamented Addo.
“Two mistakes against South Africa, a basic mistake against Zimbabwe and another basic mistake tonight [against Niger] cost us.”
