I need the support of all - Coach Appiah

Kwasi Appiah, the newly-appointed head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars has expressed happiness and excitement about his appointment and appealed for maximum support.

“I cannot do the job alone and will count on the prayers and the support of all Ghanaians”, he told the GNA Sports in a telephone interview from Kumasi on Tuesday.

He said he sees his elevation as a challenge and is upbeat that, with the co-operation of the playing body, management and all other stakeholders, he will succeed.

He pledged to work hard to live up to expectation and justify the confidence reposed in him.

Ghana Football Association (GFA), on Monday named Appiah as the substantive coach of the Black Stars.

Until his appointment, he was the assistant coach and replaces dismissed Serbian Manager Goran Stevanovic.

Appiah is expected to meet the Executive Committee of the GFA soon to formalize the contractual agreement.

Meanwhile, football fans in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi have expressed mixed reaction to his appointment with many giving the GFA high marks for offering the job to a local coach.

They however expect him to be firm in his decisions and to do everything to establish a strong case for the local coaches.

Many of the supporters assured him of their unflinching support to succeed.**
