I won't be surprised if Berekum Chelsea wins CAF Cup - Kyeremeh

Emmanuel Kyeremeh, President of Berekum Chelsea Football Club, has said he would not be surprised if his side wins the 2012 Confederation of Africa Confederation (CAF) Champions League.

Speaking in an interview few hours after the team's return from Cameroon with a shocking 2-1 victory over Coton Sports in the second leg of the 1/8th round to qualify for the money zone, on Sunday night, he said Berekum Chelsea has the quality in terms of materials to win the trophy.

The President of the Club said that his side, which is made up of experienced and young talented players, have the character to stand the might of any team in the competition.

Kyeremeh said the players have also given him full assurance that they would make Ghana proud on the continent once more, adding that he is counting on their pledge and the quality of the team to win the second CAF Champions League trophy by a Ghanaian Club after Hearts of Oak's feat in 2000.

He gave the assurance that the management would put in place the necessary measures for the playing body to enable them to realize the dream of winning the trophy.

“I believe in my players, I know what they are capable of doing when given the opportunity. I have no doubt that Berekum Chelsea would emerge champions of the competition.” He stated.

Asked if he gave up hope after the team drew in the first leg on their home grounds, Kyeremeh said he never doubted the ability of his players, adding that he knew they would surely qualify.

He said the Cameroonians played a tight game in the first leg and packed the defence, but was convinced they were going to open up in the second leg so his side could capitalize on that.

Kyeremeh said that the team would intensify its preparations for the task ahead.

Coach Hans Vans der Plyum who was delighted with the feat of his side, said they have exhibited a championship character by winning in an ‘opponent’s territory.

“With self believe, I think my players have what it takes to win the competition. All we need is to prepare well for the group stages.” He stated.**
