Injured Daniel Amartey fails to make season return

Ghana international Daniel Amartey can only play again for Leicester City next season, having failed to make an injury recovery ahead of Sunday's final matchday clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old has been out of first team action since suffering an injury setback in a Premier League clash with Bournemouth in March.

He looked set for a return two weeks back when he featured in The Foxes' U-23s fixture with Aston Villa.

“I think we will see for [Kasper] Schmeichel but I think it will be difficult for [him],” Puel said in his team news at a press conference on Friday.

“Not available [through injury] are [Robert] Huth, [Daniel] Amartey, [Ben] Chilwell, [Matty] James, [Wilfred] Ndidi and [Shinji] Okazaki, and [the suspended Marc] Albrighton is another thing.

“We will see tomorrow with [Aleksandar ] Dragovic and [Danny] Simpson.

"[Adrien] Silva seems okay, which is good news. I think [Fousseni] Diabaté is okay also.”

Amartey was expected back for last week's league encounter with West Ham after appearing for the U23s, but according to reports, the Black Star suffered a relapse in the reserves fixture.

A peripheral figure at King Power Stadium this season, Amartey has made just eight league appearances, involving six starts, so far.

His limited opportunities heightened reports of an exit during the January transfer window, having been linked with the likes of Championship side Aston Villa and German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

He joined the Foxes from Danish outfit FC Copenhagen in January 2016, making five outings as Leicester won the league title the following May.
