Former Asante Kotoko defender Gabriel Issah Ahmed has levelled bribery allegations against the Kumasi-based outfit.

The centre-back won two league titles with the Porcupine during his time in the local topflight, and was also part of the set-up that fell to rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2004 Caf Confederations Cup final.

However, after struggling to make any major impact abroad, the 34-year-old is back in Ghana and reveals what hampered his intentions of re-launching his career with the 23-time league champions.

“I was asked to pay bribe by some top officials of Kotoko when I decided to join the club after my long spell in Europe,” Ahmed told Kessben FM.

“I wanted to do this [mark my return with the club] because I know Kotoko is my former club and I wanted to help the team.

“But I was tossed here and there when I attempted. And in the end, officials wanted to extort money from me before they allow me join the team.”

A member of Ghana’s 23-man squad for the 2006 Fifa World Cup in Germany, Ahmed joined Danish outfit Randers same year, after spending three seasons with the local giants.

He also featured for Ghana at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
