Rennes coach Philippe Montanier has described John Boye as a fighter after the Ghana defender returned to action on Wednesday after a six-month layoff.
Boye played the entire duration of the 1-0 win over Auxerre in the Coupe de France.
Before making the match, Boye had only played a quarter of an hour this season in all competitions.
But his impressive display on the night attracted praises from coach Montanier.
“I did not have so many questions. He was well in training and met expectations in the match,” Montanier said.
“Defensively, John is reliable. This is a fighter, a true club player with a strong mentality. It’s contagious among his teammates. ”
Boye’s return to action is a major boost for Ghana ahead of the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil this June.
His last appearance for the Black Stars was back in September when he captained the team to a 3-1 defeat to Japan in a friendly.
