Keta to be crowned as the Ghana Beach Soccer Champions

Sunset Sports - Keta to be crowned as the Ghana Beach Soccer Champions on May 5, 2012.

Volta Regional side Sunset Sports of Keta has emerged as the first ever champions of Beach soccer in Ghana with a game left to end the league season. The enterprising beach Ballers achieved the feat after beating Dansoman Beach Soccer Club in a fascinating derailing encounter.
The Cal Bank sponsored Beach Soccer Premier League which commenced in October last year has seen the Keta based team remain unbeaten in their matches. Sunset Sports currently enjoy a three point lead and a goal difference of nineteen (19) over second placed arch rivals Havedzi Mighty warriors also from Volta Region. But with the league to be decided on head – head basis, Sunset Sports have secured the championship having beaten Havedzi Mighty Warriors over two legs in a cracker of derbies.
Having gone into the history books as Ghana’s first ever champions of Beach Soccer, Sunset Sports will be presented with the League Championship trophy at a coronation game on the 5th of May at the La Pleasure Beach Soccer Arena. The team will play their final match against La based side Layoca– a side Sunset Sports run over by 8 – 3 in their opening game of the season.
Dzidodo Ruben Adjahoe CEO of Sunset Sports said they are happy to go into the history books as the maiden champions of Ghana but they will not rest on their achievements or become complacent as the club would want to finish on the high note by defeating their opponents and becoming undefeated champions. He said as a coastal community, the achievement of the club is an indication that Keta is the premier destination and the hub for beach soccer in Ghana. Mr. Adjahoe said the club would not have gone into the history books without the unflinching support of the MP for Anlo and Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Clement Kofi Humado and expressed his profound gratitude to him. He also thanked the MP for Keta Hon. Richard Lassey Agbenyefia and everyone who supported the club in diverse ways especially the timing fans that pledge their support towards the club.
Mr Adjahoe further called on all philanthropists in Keta and the Volta Region to support the club to bring more laurels to the region as most of the players of the club will form the core of Ghana’s Beach Soccer National Team. He said sports is a means of developing self sustaining career for the youth, generating employment, revenue and ultimately leads to the integrated development of the society at large, so all stakeholders in the Region needs to help continue good run of Beach Soccer in the region.
The coronation game will be witnessed by the crème de la crème of sports in Ghana including the Youth and Sports Minister Clement Humado, Officials of the Ghana Football Association, National Sports Council and the members of Ghana Beach Soccer Association.
