Kintampo Young Kotoko beat their arch-rivals, Kintampo Sharp Arrows 2-0 to lift the Baba Yara Memorial Cup at the grand-finale of a two-day soccer gala competition held at Kintampo on Sunday.

Kotoko, scored both goals in spectacular fashions in each half.

Before reaching the finals of the eight-team competition, Young Kotoko, captained by Alhassan Maada, won all their preliminary matches throughpenalty shoot-outs, defeating Super Eagles of Babatokuma 2-1, Zamelek of Kintampo 3-2 and Kintampo Destroyers 5-4.

Mr James Kwabena Bomfeh, District Chief Executive for Kintampo, who was the guest of honour, presented the championship cup and a cash prize to Kotoko's captain Maada, who happens to be the grandson of the late Baba Yara, one of Ghana's best footballers.

The runners-up, Sharp Arrows and third-placed Destroyers were also presented with cash prizes.

Mr Bomfeh commended Mr James Anane-Gyinde, a citizen of Kintampo based in Germany for donating the cup to honour the late Baba Yara, acclaimed as Ghana's greatest footballer.

Yara, a native of Kintampo and his teammates of Real Republicans were involved in a motor accident in the Volta Region in the early 60s while returning to Accra after a friendly football match.

The other zones are New Longoro and Banuantwe.

In the Banuantwe zone where nine teams featured with Banuantwe as the venue, Techera United won over Kantige Amingo Stars on technical grounds, while at New Longoro, Maala Stars of New Longoro had a walk over Bamboi Awasa Stars to win the competition.
