The Board of Directors of Kumasi Asante Kotoko football club says its decision to endorse the termination of the appointment of head coach Ian Potterfield was a unanimous decision and not by vote.
A statement signed by Board Secretary, Larry Otoo, also says the Chief Patron of the club, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has not made any contact with the Board on the matter.
The statement confirms JoyNEWS reports of the endorsement, but explains that it was not by votes. JoyNEWS reports indicate that, club Chief Executive, Herbert Mensah told the Board that the players are planning to revolt should the coach be reinstated.
The players according to the Chief Executive were planning to boycott the second leg quarterfinal match against El-Mahala of Egypt.
Coach Ian Potterfield was dismissed after he guided the team to win an impressive 3-0 game against El-Mahala of Egypt.
Club sources say, his dismissal is because of acts of insubordination and failure to perform.
He has in turn accused Mr. Mensah of battery and assault during their league match against Accra Great Olympics, and wrongful termination of contract.
The statement from the Kotoko Board Secretary confirmed that the coach has initiated a legal process against the club. The statement was not on a recognized letterhead of Kotoko or the Kotoko Board.
