Kotoko Risk Losing Spacefon Sponsorship

Asante Kotoko have breached their 1.5 billion sponsorship agreement with Spacefon and risk a fine of 60 million cedis.

The cellular giants have exclusive representation on the front of Kotoko’s jerseys but last Sunday in Kotoko’s game against Hearts Of Oak, the logo of the top four also received representation on the front of Kotoko’s jersey.

JOYSports investigations has revealed that the cellular service provider on Tuesday forwarded a letter to Asante Kotoko warning them of the possible threat their acts pose to the legally binding document.

According to Spacefon, it’s a clear breach of the sponsorship agreement that clearly gives Spacefon the sole advertising right to the frontage of the jerseys.

Spacefon maintains that the 60 million cedi fine is the penalty for the breach of contract enshrined in the contract.

Asante Kotoko secured the lucrative Spacefon deal during the Herbert Mensah administration and its continued to now.

But the cellular service provider giants are not to happy with the turn of events.

Kotoko in its previous Coca-Cola Top Four match with King Faisal had the coca-cola insignia placed at the back of their jerseys but against Hearts of Oak last Sunday, the Coca-Cola logo was placed in front together with the Spacefon logo.
