Kotoko board denies Otumfuo meeting

A member of Asante Kotoko’s board of directors, Bernard Akwasi Xiel, has described as complete falsehood media reports claiming that the club’s board is set to meet Asante Kotoko owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II today.

Xiel, who doubles as the chairman of the supporters’ wing, the National Circles Council says the purported meeting with the club’s owner being reported in the media is untrue.

“These are just unfounded speculations from the media; we’ve heard and read some of them but as board members, we have not received any notification on when we are meeting the Asantehene at Manhyia since last Thursday’s visit.”

Xiel noted that even though the entire Board is scheduled to meet with the Asantehene, no board member has been informed as to when that would happen.

“We are taken aback by such reports. As for Manhyia, there is an impending meeting of the whole board with our king, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as he pronounced last week but we are yet to be informed of when it will happen.”

In a related development, footy-ghana.com can confirm that the Board of directors will meet in Kumasi today to receive outgoing Executive Board Chairman Dr. K.K. Sarpong’s handing over notes.

Dr. Sarpong tendered in his resignation a few days ago and today’s meeting is expected to be his last with Asante Kotoko’s Board of Directors.
