Kotoko is the greatest club - Gyamfi

Emmanuel Gyamfi insists he never considered leaving Wa All Stars as a free agent for any other club than Asante Kotoko, despite being linked to a host of local heavyweights and European clubs.

The 21-year-old signed a three-year deal with Kotoko on Monday to end speculations about his future.

Gyamfi, who won eleven Man of the Match awards while with All Stars last season after returning from a loan spell at Armenian side Shirak FC, had also been on the radar of Berekum Chelsea and Medeama, as well as a couple of second-tier sides in Turkey.

"I had a lot of offers, but I made it clear right from the start that I was only interested in joining a big club and that is Kotoko which is the greatest club in Ghana," Gyamfi told Goaso-based Success FM.

"After my contract ended at All Stars, they offered me a new deal but I stated emphatically that I wanted to change environment and face new challenges. So, I even stayed at home without a club as a free agent in the first round of the season while I could've played for them.

"I've started training with Kotoko but didn't travel to Wa for the midweek fixture against Wa All Stars. But I'm hoping to make my debut against Techiman City next weekend. That's the last game of the first round so if I'm selected, I will show what I also have in store," he added.

Gyamfi becomes the first official signing by Kotoko in the second transfer window, although the club is reported to have opened discussions with striker Nathaniel Asamoah, Augustine Okrah and Seidu Bancey.
