Kotoko's Board Chairman calls for support

Kumasi, July 6, GNA - The Board Chairman of Kumasi Asante Kotoko F/C, Dr Kofi Koduah Sarpong has appealed for more support by well wishers and supporters for the programmes and initiatives designed to re-establish Club as one of the most glamorous on the Africa continent. Dr Sarpong said with the huge support base of the Club it has everything it takes to recapture the once formidable form that made the Club to dominate African football from the 1950's through to the early 1980's. The Board Chairman made the appeal at the inauguration of an ultra-modern training pitch constructed for the Club at Adako-Jachie in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality on Tuesday.

Dr Sarpong noted that what is required is for the management and the followers to get their acts right and to mobilize resources to build and improve on its structures. Green Grass Technology, a United-Kingdom (UK) - based pitch development firm, executed the project.

Kotoko, which was established in 1935, has twice won the African Club Championship Cup in 1970 and 1983 and has also on seven different occasions finished as runners up in the same competition. The Porcupine Warriors on the local scene holds the enviable record of winning the Premier League title on 21 times, the highest by any Club in Ghana's football history. It was on account of such achievements that Kotoko was recently voted "The Best Club in Africa for the Century" by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Dr Sarpong said the Board would work hard to strengthen the internal structures of the Club and create the right conditions to put pace in its progress and development. The Board has drawn up a three-year development programme under which a state-of-the-art gymnasium, a clinic and club house are to be built. Dr Sarpong added that said a comprehensive incentive package for the technical team and playing body has been put in place to give off their best and deliver joy to the teeming fans of the Club. 06 July 10
