The Chairman of the five-member committee set up to probe the shooting incident after the Asante Kotoko-Obuasi Goldfields league encounter in Kumasi, Mr Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie,
has called on persons with vital information on the incident to make them available to it to facilitate the committee's work.
He gave the assurance that the identity of such persons would not be disclosed and so they should have nothing to fear.
Mr Justice Baffoe-Bonnie made the call yesterday in Kumasi during the inauguration of the committee, which was set up by the Ashanti Regional Security Committee. A policeman was alleged to have fired a live ammunition into a crowd after the match, killing one person instantly and wounding another.
Mr Baffoe-Bonnie urged the media to exercise circumspection in their coverage of the committee's sittings. "You must use your powerful weapon to find a lasting solution to the problem", he said.
He appealed to the relatives of the victims to exercise patience and restraint and assured them that the committee will work to ensure that justice prevails.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr S. K Boafo, who inaugurated the committee said the committee will begin its sittings on November, 19 at the RCC Conference Hall and will have three weeks to submit its report. He said the terms of reference of the committee are that they will have to examine the circumstances leading to the shooting incident and the extent of damage and destruction of life and property.
Besides, it will examine other issues, which in the opinion of the committee might be relevant and make recommendations that will bring understanding and lasting peace between the two football clubs. Mr Boafo said with the experience of the members of the committee, there is no doubt on his mind that they will discharge their duties to expectation.
The other members of the committee are: Prof. C.K Kankam, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Nana Adusei Poku, Akyempimhene and Mr Opoku Nkansah, Deputy Director, RCC.
