French Ligue 1 outfit Olympique Lyon have decided to stop paying the wages of Ghana captain John Mensah due to his inactivity, according to Le Progres.
Lyon opted to hit him in the pocket following spate of injuries that has blighted his career this season.
It is unclear if this is a clause in his contract or he has been handed the terms of a pay-as-you-play deal.
The centre-back has managed only one appearance for the side this term due to his recurrent injuries.
The 29-year-old will start receiving his wages if he returns to full fitness and earns playing time.
He battled injuries at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations where the Black Stars finished fourth.
Mensah returned to Lyon after a two-year loan deal at English side Sunderland and the outlandish decision is likely to push him out of the club.
He signed a five-year deal with the club worth £ 8.4 million in 2008 and has a year left on his current contract.
