MM Babies show class at DANA Cup

Akwatia-based youth club, M. M. Frankfurt babies emerged victorious in both the U-13 and U-14 categories of the 22nd edition of the Danish of youth soccer championship, the DANA Cup which ended in Denmark recently.

MM Babies defied strong oppositions from the record number of 833 teams from 46 countries that participated in the week-long intensive competition to clinch the double victory. The youth teams of Europe's most revered clubs also participated in the grand competition.

MM Babies beat KRI from Iceland 4-2 in the final of the U-14 while in the U-13 final they whipped Atlantis FC of Finland 2-0.

The DANA Cup competition is the world's second biggest youth soccer fiesta after the US Shwanzi Cup.

Apart from winning the prestigious trophies in their categories, MM babies also swept all the vital awards in the tournament. Charles Agbesi and Samuel Edo Foster won the U-14 and the U-13 best player prizes respectively while Godfred Appiah slotted home a total of 14 goals during the competition to snatch the goal king award. Edo again won the goal king trophy in his division with a total of 12 goals.

The team's coach Kadiri Mumuni was also voted the best coach of the tournament for his spectacular effort in guiding the kids to a resounding double victory in the competition ahead of big teams like Pequinions, Harvibeck Sv and Wydad Athletico from Brazil, Germany and Morocco respectively.

He described his team's quarter final clash against Wydad Athletico which was decided through a golden goal scored by Edo in the U-13 event as the toughest match.

According to coach Mumuni, Mr Kwaku Ofori, an indigenee of Akwatia who resides in Denmark, arranged the tournament for them.

He explained that after witnessing the team's impressive performance during the Kwaebibirem District Championships Mr Ofori promised to make the necessary connection to include the team in the competition.

He noted that the team have plans to keep the boys together for at least six years to enable them to mature effectively for future challenges ahead of them. Two other Ghanaian teams that participated in the competition were Tema-based Kascoms FC and Koforidua-based Fense Stars FC
