Mahama of Tamale SHS 4th evictee

of MTN Soccer Academy 6 Skuulz Challenge

If anyone had told Mahama Yussif, team mate #1, that he was going to be evicted from the MTN Soccer Academy 6 Skuulz Challenge last Sunday night, it might have been taken with a pinch of salt by the lad, considering the level of confidence the seventeen-year old was evidently beaming with, at the beginning of the Show.

Mahama’s confidence was probably destined to last just a while, as in a rather shocking turn of events, “the Executioner” announced his eviction from the Reality Show.

As is the custom of the Eviction Show, even after being evicted from the competition, the evicted team mate in a ceremonial fashion proudly carries his school’s flag high, with his head held up and makes his way to the tunnel; and this Mahama did, but with his head bowed down, quite obviously in shock and disbelief at his eviction. Mahama was however full of praise for the Organizers of the Show, Optimum Media Prime, and its title sponsors, MTN, for offering him what he described as a “once in a life time experience” in his quest to become a soccer icon in future. He conceded that “though I am saddened by my eviction, I still see this as a challenge, and so I will inspire myself to work harder to attain my soccer ambitions”, Mahama noted.

In an interview with Head Coach of the Soccer Academy, Herbert Addo, he revealed that Mahama had physique advantage, but had to work very hard at developing some very essential technical abilities including ball control, quality of passes, and movements. Coach Addo indicated that Mahama could do very well in football, if given the needed coaching and guidance. “I believe that the chap has got the potential, and with the necessary training and supervision, he can develop into a very good footballer”, Coach Addo said. In their first ever 5-a-side match with a visiting team

during an Eviction night, the team mates played host to Accra Polytechnic Football team. Both teams showed great resilience throughout the first fifteen minutes of the game, but in the second half, the team mates showed that perhaps they were much better on their own turf, as they virtually took control over the whole game. In the end, two long range shots, first from Theophilus Nketiah of Kumasi Secondary Technical School and then a second from Bawa, Wa Senior High School, was what separated the two sides, with the match ending 2-0 in favour of the team mates.

Last Sunday night’s Eviction lived up to the Show’s trademark of combining soccer, fun and entertainment as was seen in the number of people from different backgrounds who had thronged the MTN Soccer Academy House to be part of the Show.

Amidst the display of indigenous musical performances by some of Ghana’s Hiplife greats including “Cash-Units”, patrons of the night had a lovely and enjoyable time whilst striking new acquaintances.

The eviction of Mahama leaves ten team mates left in the competition to continue battling for the ultimate prize. This Sunday will witness the fourth Eviction and may see one or more team mates being evicted from the Show.

The MTN Soccer Academy is an innovation of Optimum Media Prime, a member of the Global Village Group, and proudly sponsored by MTN.
