Major stakeholders brainstorm on CAN 2008

Accra, April 10, GNA - Major stakeholders in the organisation of the 2008 Nations Cup to be hosted by Ghana on Monday had a brainstorming session aimed at assessing the performance of the various sub committees including the just ended CAN 2006, hosted by Egypt as case study. The session brought to the table members of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) headed by Mr Kofi Amoah and Lepowura Alhaji M.N.D. Jawula and other sub committees formed to see to the various sections of the organisation.

Also in attendance were members of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Regional Sub- Committees.

Mr Osei Bonsu Amoah, Deputy Minister of Education and Sports who opened the session said hosting of the tournament presents the nation with a big challenge following the confidence reposed in Ghana by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

He said the nation cannot therefore fail in this direction, hence the need to put in all that is required to organise a successful tournament.

Mr Amoah said CAN 2008 is a significant event for the nation, because both Ghana and CAF would be celebrating 50 years of their existence and this calls for the total commitment from members of the various committees.

The Deputy Minister said the tournament will not only open opportunities in the sports sector but other areas such as the hotel industry, tourism, employment and even the media.

Lepowura Alhaji Jawula, Vice Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) said his outfit is determined to meet and even surpass the high standards set by Egypt, hosts of the just ended CAN 2006. He noted that reaching the set standards however might come with some frustrations which was normal in the game of football, but added that this would be made possible through hard work from members of the various committees.

The one day brainstorming session witnessed a briefing from other committees such as Public Relations/Media, Hospitality and Accommodation, Security and Immigration, Finance and Ticketing and Marketing, Advertising and Sponsorship.
