Mampong Teachers College wins soccer trophy

Kumasi, April 10, GNA - Asante-Mampong Technical Teachers College (MAMTEC) beat Bechem Saint Joseph's Training College 3-0 in the eighth edition of the joint Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions Teacher Training Colleges Sports Festival held at the Wesley College in Kumasiat the week-end.

MAMTEC opened scores in the 22nd minute through John Agyare with Anthony Oteng making it 2-0 barely a minute later. Charles Amaniampong sealed the doom of Saint Joseph's with the third goal in the 68th minute.

Berekum Training College took the third place when they beat Akrokerri Training College 2-0.

MAMTEC also won the men's cross country race with 31 points followed by Saint Joseph's College with 41 points while Berekum College placed third with 49 points.

Akrokerri College won the men's athletics event with 125 points with the second place taken by Wesley College with 117 points and Berekum College coming third with 85 points. Wesley College won the men's table tennis event followed at the second position by Akrokerri College with Saint Joseph's College placing third.

Akrokerri College captured the men's volleyball event with Berekum College placing second and Wesley College taking the third position. Saint Louis Training College came first in the women's athletics event with 98 points they were followed by Wesley College with 72 points with Akrokerri Collge placing third with 67 points. Saint Monica's Training College won the women's cross country race with 25 points followed by Saint Joseph's College with 54 points with Berekum College coming third with 61 points.

Agogo Women's Presbyterian Training College took the women's netball trophy with Saint Louis College taking the second position and Wesley College placing third.

Saint Monica's College won the women's volleyball event followed by Berekum College with Saint Louis College taking the third position. Saint Louis College captured the women's table tennis encounter with Wesley College placing second and Offinso Training College coming third.

Addressing the closing session, Mrs Belinda Serwaa Addo, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education advised athletes to train hard and refrain from the use of drugs, which she said could destroy their upbringing and educational pursuits. 10 April 06
