Manchester United are the favourites to land highly-rated Vitoria Guimaraes midfielder Bernard Mensah – beating a host of clubs across Europe to his signature in the process.
A string of impressive performances for Vitoria Guimaraes this season have caught the eye of numerous teams across the continent, including AS Monaco, Valencia and Inter Milan, who have all had scouts watch the Ghanaian.
According to Portuguese publication O Jogo, however, agent Jorge Mendes is working on a trying to complete a move to Old Trafford for his client, 20, who is comfortable either out on the wing or playing through the middle.
Mendes has a particular vested interest in the Mensah, as he is understood to own 35 per cent of the player’s transfer rights, so rules surrounding third-party ownership could potentially be an issue.
United too are also said to have had representatives present at Vitoria in recent weeks, and it is claimed Mendes is trying to push through a deal worth around €10million (£7.2m).
Links to United, however, have already led to some comparing the player to Bebe, the United flop who also made the move to Manchester from Vitoria back in 2010.
