Former France skipper Marcel Desailly has urged players of the Black Stars to give off their best at club level as that will be the only way they can improve.

The world cup winner was in the country over the weekend to watch the maiden edition of the Marcel Desaily games at the Lizzy Sports Complex.

The former Chelsea man who once showed great interest in managing the Black Stars has revealed he has been monitoring Ghanaian players from afar and wants them to continue fighting for places at club level in other to get better in all aspects of the game.

One of the nation’s best talents at the moment Christian Atsu struggled for game time in Bournemouth before moving to Malaga where his situation improved slightly.

Regular defender Jonathan Mensah has played a total of seven competitive games all season albeit he had some suspension issues in France before moving to Russia.

And according to Marcel the players must improve their performance at club level which will ultimately lead to national benefit.

“We need the current Black Stars players to be first choice at their various clubs so they can bring back their expertise to Ghana,” Desaily told Eli Kondoh of FootballGhana.com

“It’s always better when the players have a good role at their club level so that they will eventually bring their game to the national level.”

The Black Stars secured their 21st AFCON appearance on Sunday after beating Mauritius 2-0 thanks to goals from Captain Andre Ayew and Christian Astu.
